Ann Arbor, MI -  The Boston Junior Whalers Elite Hockey Club is excited to share that 2007-born defenseman, Charlie Trethewey, has committed to Boston University. Trethewey, a native of Ellitcott City, Maryland, is currently a member of the United States National Development Program Under-17 Team competing in the United States Hockey League (USHL). He has been an anchor on defense with our BJW 2007 Elite Team, which was coached by Kory Falite.

Charlie grew up playing his youth hockey for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite program, all the way up through midgets. At the conclusion of the 2021-22 season which saw him split time between the Pens Elite 14U and 15U teams, Trethewey packed his bags for Detroit ahead of last season where he showed up and showed out as a member of the Detroit Little Caesars 15U Team.

Amongst a star-studded roster, Trethewey had no problem locating the scoresheet. He tallied 20 goals and add 66 assists for 86 points in 82 games last season. That offensive output, on top of his stellar defensive play was more than enough to help earn him a spot as a member of the USNTDP's Under-17 Team this season.

While in Ann Arbor this season with the USNTDP, he has accumulated 15 goals and 25 assists for 40 points in just 55 games. He was also selected to represent the United States in the World Hockey Challenge event in Prince Edward Island where he helped lead Team USA to a silver medal, with 4 goals and 6 assists for 10 points in 7 games - leading all defensemen at the showcase. Additionally, Charlie is projected as a First Round Pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Congratulations to Charlie and his family, who have Boston roots, on this incredible milestone in your hockey journey. We can't wait to watch you light up Agganis Arena. Go Terriers!
