Orono, Maine -  The Boston Junior Whalers Elite Hockey Club is excited to share that longtime 2007-born forward, Michael Munroe, has committed to the University of Maine for the fall of 2025.

Michael, a native of Hanover, MA, grew up playing his youth hockey for the Boston Advantage program.  He first suited up with the Junior Whalers in the summer of 2014 as an incoming mite minor, and has been a member of our club ever since.

In 2021-22, Michael joined the Boston Jr Eagles U14 Elite Team for the split-season, before starring as a freshman for his hometown Hanover High School.  He led Hanover with 19 goals and 20 assists for 39 points in just 25 games en route to the TD Garden where they captured the MIAA State Championship.

The following season, Munroe took his game to Avon Old Farms Prep in Connecticut, and played his split-season hockey for the Neponset Valley River Rats U16 Team. He posted 7 goals and added 7 assists for 14 points in his first season at Avon.

This past summer, he impressed at the USA Hockey Under-16 Camp in Buffalo, tallying 3 goals and 3 assists in 5 games. He again suited up for the Neponset Valley River Rats this fall, posting 22 goals and 18 assists for 40 points in 32 games. He has rode that momentum into a breakout season at Avon Old Farms, where he has 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points, just 12 games into the season.

We would like to express our sincerest congratulations to Michael, his father Scott, his mother Melissa, and the rest of the Munroe family on this tremendous milestone. We have seen the hard work and dedication that he has put in with hundreds of hours of skating and skill sessions over the years, and couldn't be happier for Michael! Go Black Bears!
