Boston, MA -  The Boston Junior Whalers Elite Hockey Club is excited to share that longtime BJW '06 defenseman, Owen Keefe, has committed to Boston University for the Fall of 2024.

Keefe is a strong 6'0",  190 pound physical defenseman, hailing from Saugus, Massachusetts.  Keefe grew up playing for the Boston Junior Eagles youth program, where he was a mainstay on the team's blue line year in and year out.  In 2020-21, Keefe registered 7 goals and 54 assists for a total of 61 points in 60 games played as a member of the Boston Junior Eagles U14 Team, under Head Coach Jarome Iginla.

Last season in 2021-22, Keefe suited up for Malden Catholic and tallied 6 goals and 22 assists for 28 points in 21 games played. After a very strong 2021-22 season, Keefe signed a tender with the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks for the 2022-23 season.  A USHL tender consists of the respective team exchanging their first round draft pick in order to be able to come to an agreement with a player that may not be available by the time the team has their first selection of the draft. In this case, Muskegon identified Owen as a player that was mature enough, and would be able to step right in to the USHL pace of speed, and help their team this immediately this season - an honor only presented to a select few each year.

Keefe has hit the ground running, with 2 assists in his first 10 USHL games as a 16-year old playing against some of the strongest 19 and 20 year olds in North America.  Owen is the son of Northeastern University Head Coach, Jerry Keefe, who moonlit in the spring/summer as our Boston Junior Whalers 2006 Elite Team coach for a number of years.

"I've had the pleasure of watching Owen grow as a hockey player and as a young man, from playing Mite Minor hockey a year early in East Boston, upward to the United States Hockey League", said BJW's Mike Cusack. "Boston University is getting a great player and leader on the ice, and they're getting a relentlessly hard worker off of the ice", he continued.

We look forward to watching Owen grow over the next couple of years with Muskegon, and will be rooting for Boston University in round one father/son Beanpot rivalry in 2025!  Congrats to Owen and the Keefe family on such a well-deserved accomplishment.  Go BU!
