Foxboro, MA -- The Boston Junior Whalers U16 Elite Team kicked off the 2019 spring/summer tournament season by taking home the title this past weekend at the Shamrock Elite Invite in Foxboro, MA.

After falling to a strong Boston Hockey Club team in the opener by a score of 3-2 on Friday evening, the boys bounced back on Saturday with a big win against Superskills Elite 5-2.  In a tight back and forth battle on Saturday evening, the boys edged out a 5-5 tie with a scrappy Squires 17's team, to earn the #4 Seed in the semi finals on playoff Sunday.

The boys were paced with a couple of goals by Vincent Gould (Roxbury Latin School) and two assists by Mick Frechette (St. Paul's School), and powered past the first-seed NJR Blackhawks in the semi-finals, to set up a rematch with the Boston Hockey Club in the final.

The team was paced in net by Colin Ronan (Islanders HC), and strong defense led by Anthony Khaimov (Long Island Gulls), as they avenged a Friday night loss to the Boston Hockey Club, and took the Championship by a final score of 2-1.  Congratulations to the BJW U16 Elite Team on kicking things off on a great note, and will look to carry it forward and repeat as back-to-back champs at the Blue Chip Elite Invite next month!
